May 9th, 2023Local libraries prepare to celebrate LGBTQIAA+ community

May 17 is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia & Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). It celebrates LGBTQIAA+ people globally and raises awareness for the work still needed to combat discrimination.
To celebrate, library agencies that are part of the Goldfields Libraries group at Wedderburn, Tarnagulla and Pyramid Hill will run some fun rainbow dishcloth crafting sessions, and Castlemaine Library will host author and photographer Mia Mala McDonald and launch the second series of the Pride Across the Ages podcast.
The library is also encourage patrons to check out its Meet the Family playlist on Youtube. The series was created in partnership with local LGBTQIAA+ youth who wanted to meet and understand the lived experiences of community members from other generations. The videos touch on topics including CisHet norms, the word ‘queer’, proud moments, and what still needs to be done to action change for future generations. The results are not only illuminating; they’ll help you see the world through entirely different eyes.
