Places Revisited…Again is the name of the latest exhibition of work by established Castlemaine artist, Bill Beasley.

Capturing scenes that recount the journey of the artist through beautiful far-flung locatons, the exhibition is currently on show at the Newstead Railway Arts Hub through to this Sunday, November 24.

Places revisited was the title of Bill’s first exhibition in 1971. Places Revisited…Again, reflects his journey since then.

It’s a celebration of style and the evolution of an art practise across the decades.

Castlemaine-based Beasley gained his reputation as a black and white artist in the late 1960s and 1970s when he illustrated seven of Rigby’s Sketchbook series, including the Castlemaine Sketchbook.

He studied oil painting under Sir William Dargie and has worked as a successful book illustrator, portraitist, cartoonist and teacher.

Beasley has also been artist in residence at many schools, including an International School in Chiang Mai in Thailand.

He has conducted workshops throughout country Victoria and southern New South Wales and his work is represented in private collections throughout Australia and overseas, regional galleries, Sacred Heart Cathedral Bendigo and Melbourne University’s archival collection.

Beasley is also a trombonist and vocalist in The Louisiana Shakers, one of Melbourne’s leading New Orleans jazzbands.

The Newstead Railway Arts Hub gallery is open Saturdays and Sundays, 10am-4pm and entry is free.
