The state government is boosting the only state-funded public fertility program in Australia.
The Victorian Budget 2026/27 invests $43.4 million so more Victorians can start their own family.
This funding will support:
- Specialist outpatient appointments
- IVF or related treatment cycles including fertility preservation
- Supporting the frontline public fertility workforce
- The operation of Australia’s first public egg and sperm bank.
Victoria’s public fertility service supports those who often face the biggest barriers to accessing private services.
This includes lower-income earners and regional Victorians.
It also supports those undergoing medical treatment impacting fertility, including severe endometriosis and cancer.
As Australia’s only state funded public fertility program and led by the Royal Women’s Hospital, care is delivered in every corner of Victoria through satellite sites – cutting down on unnecessary travel and expenses.
Since beginning in 2022, the service has:
- Welcomed hundreds of babies into the world
- Helped more than 700 women access fertility preservation services for eligible medical reasons
- Supported close to 8,500 patients to begin their fertility journey including almost 1,500 regional Victorians.
