Minister Vicki Ward and Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece has announced a $1 million Musical Theatre Development Fund to back the musical sector.

It’s a partnership between the state government and City of Melbourne delivered through the Regent Theatre Trust.

Together they’ll uncover Victoria’s next musical smash hits and support homegrown productions to take to the stage.

The Fund kicks off with a $1 million investment for Victoria’s next big stage hits.

Victoria is Australia’s musical theatre capital with the highest recorded revenue and attendance in the country.

The new Fund will help bring local musical theatre ideas from the page to the stage, using Victorian talent to develop new production.

It will help creative teams develop their projects through masterclasses, workshops and mentorships.

Participants will be able to pitch their ideas to global industry leaders.

Top ranked projects will receive dedicated investment to take their work to the next stage.

The Fund will also support projects heading towards commercial release.

It will back emerging Victorian musical theatre projects right across the City of Melbourne.

This will create a pipeline of new Victorian productions ready to delight and inspire audiences.
