The Victorian Government has published the 2026-27 schedule for its popular Detox Your Home program, giving more opportunities to safely dispose of household chemicals and other hazardous waste free of charge.
The program helps keep dangerous materials out of landfill and waterways, reducing the risk to community health and the environment while making it easier for households to do the right thing. Events will be held at locations across metropolitan and regional Victoria. Bookings are essential. Link: www.environment. vic.gov.au/hazardous-household-chemicals/detox-your-home More than 250 regional Victoria schools will benefit from a new central water and sanitation program.
Currently, not every school in rural and regional Victoria has access to public water or sewer mains, meaning teachers and principals have been doing time-consuming administrative work. Now schools will no longer be responsible for making sure their water systems are maintained. This includes testing and treating drinking water, and desludging wastewater management systems. Instead, it will be managed centrally by the Victorian School Build-ing Authority with drinking water being safer. The program will be fully implemented by 2028. Local plumbers will be used where possible.
