Daylesford water supply receives major lift

Daylesford customers are now receiving water from the improved basin, which is back in full service in time for this summer.

These works ensure the long-term viability of the infrastructure to maintain water supply services to the Daylesford community.

The original basin was built in the late 1800s, with a storage capacity of over 4 million litres of water for the growing community. These important upgrades to the water basin include a new liner and structural repairs which will support its ongoing use well into the future.

The project’s temporary water tanks are being removed and the area’s reinstatement works have now started.

Central Highlands Water is aware of the high heritage and environmental value of the Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens and appreciates the support and assistance of the Hepburn Shire Council, the Friends of Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens and the local community while these significant works were undertaken.

Central Highlands Water managing director Jeff Haydon said completing the Daylesford water basin upgrade was an important step in securing long-term infrastructure viability and ensures high-quality water services now and for future generations.

“It is great to see the removal of the 50,000-litre temporary water tanks from the site, and we are delighted to be able to provide a water tank to the Hepburn Shire Council for future community needs.

“CHW is pleased to be able to finalise the project leading into the warmer months and before the high visitation season to the beautiful gardens, which are a great asset to the local community.

“I would like to thank the Hepburn Shire Council, Friends of Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens and the local community for their collaboration and support throughout this project.”
