The Department of Environment Land Water and Planning (DELWP) is seeking community input into how people use and value Victoria’s mineral springs.

A new 10 -year strategic master plan is being produced for publicly accessible mineral springs to guide land managers in future planning, investment and promotion.

DELWP Land and Built Environment Regional Manager Daniel McMahon said naturally occurring mineral springs are a valuable resource and are recognised for their historical, cultural, social and economic values.

“Many people from right across Victoria visit the springs and enjoy drinking the spring waters.”

DELWP released an online survey today seeking feedback from visitors to the mineral springs reserves on:

  • What people value about the mineral springs
  • Which mineral springs are preferred and why
  • How people know where the mineral springs are located
  • How people consume, collect and store mineral water

People are encouraged to complete the survey at www.engage.vic.gov.au/mineral-springs-masterplan before July 10 2022.

The feedback will be used to inform the new master plan which will ensure mineral springs are managed holistically and that regional tourism and Traditional Owner aspirations for self- determination are supported.

The master plan, while improving community access and safety to the springs, will not include detailed individual site planning.

The mineral springs are located on Dja Dja Wurrung, Wadawurrung, and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country across the Shires of Hepburn, Moorabool, Macedon Ranges, City of Greater Geelong and Mt Alexander.

The majority of the springs are concentrated within the Central Highlands region around the Daylesford Hepburn areas.

The master plan 2023-2032 is expected to be completed by December this year.
