Macedon Ranges Shire Council is encouraging eligible community groups to apply for a federal Preparing Australian Communities - Local Stream Program grant.

Macedon Ranges Shire Council is encouraging eligible community groups to apply for a federal Preparing Australian Communities – Local Stream Program grant.

The Preparing Australian Communities – Local Stream Program provides locally led projects with between $20,000 to $10 million in funding to improve the resilience of communities against natural hazards.
The grant aims to support communities to undertake disaster risk reduction and resilience initiatives that provide public benefit through reducing the impact of future natural hazards on communities, as well as the burden (cost and time) of recovery in communities following future disasters.
Stephen Pykett, Acting Director Planning and Environment said these grants could provide local organisations with a significant funding boost.
“Community organisations are integral to the preparedness, response and recovery efforts of the Macedon Ranges and we’re fortunate to have highly involved and innovative local groups supporting our communities.”
“Macedon Ranges is a fire prone part of Victoria and we are still in the midst of cleaning up following the storms in June, October and November. Once rare extreme fire and other weather driven events are now becoming more common, so I encourage community groups and organisations with disaster risk reduction and resilience initiatives to review the criteria and apply before the 6 January deadline,” he said.
Applications close 6 January 2022. Council’s Storm Recovery team are able to provide some advice for groups on their applications. Please contact recovery@mrsc.vic.gov.au
