December 14th, 2025Fire preparedness plan
Farmers are encouraged to ensure their farm fire management plans are in place in preparation for the upcoming fire season.
Late spring rainfall has seen most of Victoria receiving 60-100% of its average growing season rainfall. However, there is still an increased risk of fire forecast for the south-west, western, central and north-central Victoria, as well as south-west Gippsland. The increased risk is in part a result of long term rainfall deficiencies (APAC).
Don’t wait until a bad fire day is upon you but take some time now to review your fire plan.
Agriculture Victoria’s Fire Preparedness Toolkit will guide you through the key elements of bringing your fire plan up to date.
The toolkit contains checklists and templates to help you prepare for the season. Mapping critical assets, water sources, assembly/evacuation points and stock refuge areas as well as ensuring your Property Identification Codes (PICs) are up to date, are all recommended ahead of the fire season.
In addition, updating your farm asset inventory, reviewing your insurance policy and ensuring your documents are securely stored (in the cloud or off-farm) will ease the process of recovery should you be impacted by fires.
The toolkit and other resources are available on the Agriculture Victoria website and can be used in conjunction with resources from the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and your local council.
