Newstead’s Railway Arts Hub is hosting an exhibition of nature photography.

The ‘Wild Discoveries’ exhibition is running through to Sunday September 29 and features work by four local photographers who are all enthused about nature.

Photographers Daryl Fleay, Patrick Kavanagh, Marte Newcombe and Bronwyn Silver present some of their most striking discoveries of the wild – visual testaments to the natural world.

Minute details of a feather or moss, connections in colour and texture, colours and the vastness of the night sky all make for some beautiful final results in this exhibition which is open on weekends, Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-4pm.

Newstead Railway Arts Hub is hosting a concert by local artist – Jo Huf on Friday evening, July 5.

Jo is a singer-songwriter, sometimes a one-lady band of electro-pop sounds or sometimes playing and singing bossa nova, one thing is for sure you get a variety show! 

Jo will take listeners on a musical journey through all these genres helping to warm up your winter.

Jo’s resplendent, soaring vocals will get under your skin and make your soul sing!

Refreshments to hand on the evening will include Welshman’s Reef wines, beer and drinks will be available at bar prices, from 7pm and during interval.

The Newstead Arts Hub’s inaugural artists market will be held on Sunday, December 10 from 10am to 4pm – in and around the historic Newstead Railway Station and garden.

The artists market will have more than 25 stalls inside the Hub, scattered along the old railway platform and in the garden. It’s a chance to meet the artists as well as make a purchase or two.

A special feature is the inclusion of some favourite visual artists who have exhibited at the Newstead Arts Hub recently: Milton Moss, Marcus Hotblack, Prue McAdam, Bridget Farmer, John Smith, Sean Kenan, Chrisanne Blennerhassett, and the print-making foursome from the recent The Shape of Blue exhibition – Malini Lewis, Janet Neilson, Penny Peckham & Anne-Maree Taylor. Add to that list local
art stars Mary Caspar and Carol Porter.

The Newstead Arts Hub is a community/artist run creative space. It is committed to creating opportunities for the communities to enjoy, share and get hands on creatively. And it is committed to supporting local artists.

During the first year of Covid, Newstead Arts Hub initiated an online artists market as a way of supporting local artists whose chance to share and sell their art had been so suddenly shut down
– as had the Arts Hub. Now, the market is going live for the first time.

While We Live, the analogue digital divide, by Hugh Wayland and James Healer, opened at the Newstead Arts Hub last weekend.
The exhibition explores the two worlds of analogue and digital photographs.
Some are old black and white images which have been scanned and sometimes coloured, while others are current images shot on a mobile phone.

This new body of work by Healey and Wayland explores links between analogue and digital, contrasting the urban and remote environments in which we live and move. It includes images captured spontaneously while travelling by car, walking or meeting people, as they went about their daily lives.
The exhibition is free to visit and is now open on weekends, from 10am to 4pm, until October 2. The Newstead Arts Hub is at 8a Tivey Street, Newstead.
