In an online post the council yesterday (Wednesday) informed residents: “Thank you for your patience while we worked with an expert independent consultant to ensure that our pool operating equipment was safe and working as it should.

“Because of the interruptions to our usual service, the Daylesford pool will open from 3-6 pm (Thursday). Trentham will open as usual, 3-6 pm.

“Sadly, the Clunes pool will be closed until further notice.

“After the inspections this morning (Wednesday) we can now report that there was a chemical leak at the Clunes pool on Friday which saw the facility evacuated and emergency services called.

“Three of our staff were impacted by the incident because of pool operating equipment failure and were given medical treatment.

“Given the same equipment is used at Trentham and Daylesford, we wanted to be certain there was no risk to staff and community and systems are safe at these locations.

“We understand that closing the pools is frustrating for the community however, the safety of you and our team is our main concern and we are pleased we can reopen the pools at Trentham and Daylesford.”

A safety issue with operating equipment has forced the temporary closure of the Clunes public outdoor swimming pool.

A safety issue with operating equipment has forced the temporary closure of the Clunes public outdoor swimming pool.

A couple of other public outdoor pools in the Hepburn Shire have also been temporarily closed to enable equipment checks to be conducted.

An issue with the pool operating equipment at the Clunes pool (pictured above and below) has prompted the Hepburn Shire Council to close that pool until further notice, and to issue an update advising people of the closure.

In a social media post this afternoon the council has advised that: “We’re very disappointed to say that the Clunes pool will be closed until further notice because of a safety issue with the pool operating equipment.

“The Daylesford and Trentham pools will also be closed until further notice as these pools use the same operating equipment and need to be assessed to ensure safety and that they’re working as they should,” the council’s social media post confirms.

“Creswick Splash Park will remain open,” the post states.

“All pool equipment at the three pools is being assessed by an independent consultant this week. We’ll provide further updates once we know more.

“We understand that this news may be frustrating to hear. Council always takes the safety of community and staff with the utmost importance,” the post states.
