March 14th, 2024Charges following fatal collision in Winchelsea
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a fatal collision that took place in Winchelsea on Saturday March 9.
It is alleged a white Volkswagen Passat collided with a green Toyota Avalon on Winchelsea-Deans Marsh Road just after 10pm on the Saturday evening of the March Labour Day long weekend.
The driver of the Toyota, a 55-year-old woman from Deans Marsh, died at the scene.
Her passenger, a 25-year-old woman also from Deans Marsh, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 31-year-old Mount Duneed man, has been charged with culpable driving, dangerous driving causing death, and dangerous driving causing serious injury.
He had been remanded to appear before Geelong Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 12 March.
The incident had been being investigated by Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives and anyone who witnessed the collision, with dashcam footage or information, was urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers website.
