Coming up Saturday, April 26, Kingston resident and author, Barry Golding, will share stories about his compelling journey in southern Dja Dja Wurrung Country through the reference points of six iconic mountains in central Victoria.

The local academic and author will be speaking at Yandoit Cultural, the former historic church building, in an afternoon session that promises to share a wealth of local history knowledge going back deep in time.

The featured mountains are today called Mt Kooroocheang [near Smeaton], Mt Beckworth [near Clunes], Mt Greenock [near Talbot], Mt Tarrengower [near Maldon], Mt Alexander [near Castlemaine] and Mt Franklin [near Daylesford].

Six Peaks Speak is an interdisciplinary and intercultural story across time, cultures, contested histories and unsettled relationships, uniquely traversing First Nations and unsettler, history, geology, ecology, anthropology and reserve management.

Barry will focus on some of the lesser known legacies in his book associated with Lalkambuk /Mt Franklin, with reference also to Gurutjanga /Mt Kooroocheang  and Liyanganuk / Mt Alexander’ .

Rosemary Hodgson, one of Australia’s finest lute players, presents a magical afternoon of lute music in the excellent acoustics of Yandoit Cultural next month.

The lute, an instrument of quiet contemplation, explores both sound and silence in this charming program.  The concert will feature works by Philip Rosseter, Robert Johnson and John Dowland.

Some of Rosemary’s music will be played on a 16th century lute.

An Australian lutenist, Hodgson maintains a vibrant career as soloist and chamber musician. She has established an international reputation for outstanding concert presentations and solo lute recordings of captivating subtlety.

A graduate of Melbourne University studying with John Griffiths, she completed her post graduate studies at the Royal College of Music London, with Jakob Lindberg. 

With a strong passion for music education, in 2019, Rosemary curated the inaugural Four Winds Lute School in Bermagui NSW, and in 2024 launched the Melbourne international Lute Festival in her hometown. 

She is a founding member of world-renowned period instrument ensemble La Compania and teaches lute at the University of Melbourne, Conservatorium of Music.

Hymn and Her Ensemble will perform at Yandoit Cultural, the old church in the bush at Uniting Church Road, on Saturday, May 20 from 4pm.
Consisting of new Yandoit residents Harmony Byrne and David Elias, pictured above, in collaboration with Serene Byrne and Gabriel Kenner, Hymn and Her Ensemble will present an acoustic performance consisting of vocals, acoustic guitar, flute and cello. Together they offer honest folk, bluesy songs of contemplation and country campfire vibes.

Ceridwen McCooey and Darcy King, above, will return to Yandoit Cultural, the old church in the bush – for a concert on Saturday, May 6 from 6pm.
After a packed house and standing ovation at their concert last year Ceridwen,
on cello, and Darcy, on classical guitar, are returning for another fabulous concert.
Ceridiwen McCooey is both cellist and composer and together with Darcy
King’s classical guitar they are a formidable duo. Both Ceridwen and Darcy are
graduates of Melbourne’s Conservatorium of Music and will soon leave Australia to
pursue postgraduate studies.
They will present a new varied repertoire of contemporary classical music
from around the globe as well as a series of Ceridwen’s own compositions for solo
cello and electronics from her upcoming album. Entry by donation and bookings
