MOST burglaries are committed by amateur burglars looking for an easy target, so make your home safe with a few easy ideas:

Make sure you have good quality locks on all doors and windows;

Double cylinder deadlocks or deadlatches should be on all external doors;

Install key operated window locks;

Change locks and cylinders when you move into a new property or if you lose your keys;

Use padlocks on gates, garages, sheds and even letterboxes should be padlocked;

Always lock your house when you leave, even if you are only going to be away for a short time, that’s all it can take;

Install a door viewer so you can see who is at the door before you open it;

Always check service providers’ credentials before letting them in your home;

Make sure you have a photographic record of your valuables;

Think about a safe for jewellery and other important possessions; and

Shrubs and trees around the house should be well pruned. You don’t want to provide cover for a burglar.
