Ajak Kwai is preparing to bring her compulsive harmonies and rhythms to Hepburn Springs’ Palais for a performance that promises to delight music lovers early next month.

Launched her fifth studio album, Let Me Grow My Wings in 2021 is an eclectic collection of twelve self-penned songs reflecting Ajak’s observations, influences and connections since moving to Australia in the late nineties.

Performed in English, some Arabic and Ajak’s native language, Dinka, the record sees Ajak honouring the traditions of her homeland, yet defying stereotype in what is best described as “modern South Sudanese rock”

Backed by a pulsing rhythm section, piano and guitars feature throughout, with a perfect blend of rhythmic rock gems and emotive ballads, each with a poignant message, she performs at the Palais on Saturday, February 4.

In addition to being ambassador for Melbourne International Arts Festival, Ajak has performed at major festivals, including Dark Mofo, WOMADelaide, Panama Festival and the Tamar Valley, Port Fairy and Woodford Folk Festivals.
