SUNDAY 4TH OCT. NEWLYN FOOTY CLUB STATE ELECTION Saturday 28th Nov. 2026 Artist Annie Forbes says working directly from life, her practice is grounded in careful observation and the comparison of tone to resolve form and space.

“Through this process, I seek to develop my visual knowledge, accepting the limitations of paint while striving to capture the truth as it appears. Each painting acts as both a visual study and a progression toward greater perceptual understanding.

“I draw inspiration from the farmland surrounding Ballarat/Daylesford – where I grew up and currently live – and the quiet beauty of familiar subjects, with the aim of portraying my subjects in a realistic manner.

“I’m based in Clarkes Hill and take painting classes in Melbourne at the Victorian Artists Society, so am on the road and in between Clarkes Hill and Melbourne.”

Annie says her connection to Daylesford is her mum, Martina Forbes (née Dwyer) who was born and grew up in Daylesford. “Her brother, Jim Dwyer and his family still live there and I have spent a lot of time there over the years. I have also exhibited and will continue to exhibit my work in the upcoming Daylesford Rotary Art Show.”

Annie’s solo exhibition, A View Point, runs until September 27, open on weekends, at the Old Butchers Shop Gallery in Ballarat, and includes a mix of local landscape and still life paintings. Link: instagram @annieforbes_art
