February 17th, 2025Ballarat man charged with upskirting offences

A Ballarat man has appeared before the Ballarat Magistrates Court after the Ballarat Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team charged him following a series of upskirting incidents in Ballarat and Melbourne.
Police allege the man, from the Ballarat suburb of Redan, filmed a number of victims at various recreational facilities and retail businesses between January 1 and 7 February 7.
Investigators also allege the material was captured without the victim’s knowledge or consent.
On Friday February 7 detectives had executed search warrants at several addresses in the Ballarat area, and located and seized a number of electronic devices.
A 39-year-old Redan man has been charged with:
• 2 counts of produce intimate image
• 2 counts of possess child abuse material
• stalking
• public nuisance.
He was remanded to appear before Ballarat Magistrates Court last Monday (February 10).
During his bail hearing appearance before the court last week police had opposed his being granted bail, arguing the risk of his re-offending was too high and that he could not be satisfactorily monitored if released.
Magistrate Julia Barling refused bail with the matter now adjourned until March 6.
