Hepburn Shire Council has been trailling the use of crushed glass and recycled road pavement as asphalt additives for road sealing at two Creswick locations.

The trials have been conducted along Creswick’s Victoria and Pearman streets.

The asphalt was made up of about 3% crushed glass, 5% binder, 10% recycled road pavement and 82% crushed rock.

The council reports that it used 9.4 tonnes of crushed glass, the equivalent of about 18,800 glass jars or bottles.

It says it’s now investigating “lots of ways to incorporate the five Rs (refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose and recycle) in our day-to-day operations and projects”.
