What is dyslexia? How common is neurodivergence? And what does it really mean for learning, wellbeing and everyday life?
This upcoming public talk brings clarity to a topic often clouded by social media soundbites. Designed for parents, teachers, educators and adults who are curious or seeking deeper understanding, the session explores neurodivergence—including dyslexia, autism and ADHD—through research, education practice and lived experience.
Artist, educator and researcher Dr Kim Percy and specialist educator Peter O’Mara will share insights drawn from academic research, classroom learning and personal journeys. Together, they will unpack how neurodivergence shapes thinking, creativity, learning and identity—moving the conversation beyond labels and misconceptions.
The talk also features the research of esteemed Dr Helen Ross, a UK-based dyslexia specialist and inclusive education expert. Her work focuses on young women aged 16–25, a group frequently overlooked in dyslexia identification and support. The session explores the challenges many young women face during key transitions into further education, training or employment, where unmet needs can impact confidence, wellbeing and opportunity.
This talk offers an accessible, evidence-informed and human-centred discussion about neurodivergence—supporting greater understanding, earlier recognition and more inclusive futures.
