Australian households can now get free personalised advice on how to cut energy bills and go electric with the launch of a new AI tool created by Rewiring Australia in partnership with Google.

Electric Saul helps people work out what to electrify first, what it could cost, how much they could save and what support may be available.

The tool draws on the expertise of Australian engineer, inventor and electrification advocate Dr Saul Griffith and gives households personalised advice based on their own home, whether they rent or own, car, location, appliances and goals.

Users can ask Electric Saul questions about solar, batteries, hot water, heating, cooking, electric vehicles and home upgrades and build a practical plan for their home and use it to prepare for conversations with installers or tradies.

Dr Saul Griffith said Electric Saul was launching as global energy shocks transform household electrification from a fringe idea into a cost-of-living and energy security issue.

“The crisis in the Strait of Hormuz has no end in sight and Australians are feeling it deeply,” Dr Griffith said.

“Our current energy system is fragile, imported, and households have very little control over it. The way forward is sitting on our roofs, in our garages and in the appliances we choose when the old ones break.

“EV’s are more popular than ever, home batteries are taking off, and more households are realising they can run their life on Australian sunshine instead of imported petrol and gas.

“But the next question is always the same: where do I start? That is why we built Electric Saul.

“We can now give people who live anywhere in Australia the same kind of plain-English advice about electrification I give my neighbours in the Illawarra.”

Electric Saul has been developed with funding and support from Google’s Digital Future Initiative.
