PARADISO Arts owner Stefan Nechwatal is doing his bit for the bushfire effort – donating the sale of one of his unique gates.

The Sailors Falls resident said the one-off, decorative heavy duty steel gate would be up for sale for one month for the price of $770.

“I will then donate that to the purchaser’s nominated, registered bushfire charity.

“After completing welding qualifications many years ago the first artwork I created was in this vein. A handcrafted gate from recycled materials and it sold at an exhibition in Eltham.

“My concept was to gather the various objects that a family of pioneers would load onto their steel-wheeled, horse-drawn wagon in the 1800s, or earlier, and set off into the New World to make a new life.

“I think there is a poignancy here in a link to the story of some bushfire victims who are regrettably about to begin a whole new life.”
