March 6th, 2024Hikers rescued from Mount Bogong

Air Wing and Search and Rescue Squad officers have rescued two men from Mount Bogong over the weekend.

It is believed the experienced hikers misjudged the difficult terrain and called emergency services for a welfare check on Saturday evening.

Search and Rescue Squad officers contacted the men and after speaking with them, it was deemed they had enough supplies and experience to safely stay for the evening.

A plan was made for Air Wing officers to attend and winch the pair to safety on Sunday morning.

The 63-year-old and 71-year-old men were winched to safety by Air Wing officers about 9.30am.

Both men were checked over by paramedics but did not require treatment.
