Police will have a major focus on impaired drivers with a statewide road policing operation set to kick off this Friday ahead of the Labour Day long weekend in Victoria.

This comes hot on the heels of a major road policing operation conducted over last weekend, during which police nabbed 49 drink drivers and 10 drug drivers on Melbourne’s Monash Freeway.

Operation Colossus, which was conducted over Friday and Saturday night, saw police conducting high volume alcohol and drug testing on the Monash Freeway, targeting impaired drivers.

Police also impounded eight vehicles, detected nine disqualified / suspended or unlicensed drivers, arrested three people for theft of motor car and issued 18 infringement notices.

Other incidents of note include:

– A 27-year-old man returning an alleged breath test reading of 0.177.

– A car detected travelling at 152km/h in a 60km/h zone on the Monash. The driver was subsequently processed for drug and unlicensed driving.

– A stolen car driving through a testing site. It was stopped a short distance away and the three occupants arrested.

– A driver being arrested in Hampton Park after failing to stop at the testing site.
