Session 1 – Farm Finances and Drought: Examining the role of farm advisors.

We mean ‘farm advisor’ to be anyone involved in providing advice to farmers (from agronomists, accountants, bank managers and rural supplies companies).

Our research has identified the critical role of farm advisors in helping farmers to make good financial decisions, particularly in times of drought.

A key issue is that information is often siloed, where specific farm advisors ‘stay in their lane’, offering sound advice, but not understanding the whole picture.

Sometimes, farmers simply can’t access the right advisor in the first place. So how do we change this? Do we need to find better ways of sharing information amongst different types of farm advisors?

Therefore, we are bringing industry advisors, academics, and farming groups together online for an open and thought-provoking discussion on how we can better serve farmers, to ultimately make farm businesses stronger and more drought resilient.
