Silence and Pain
Silence and Pain
Silence has its own music
It remembers the drift of sounds
the curdle of words
Pain presses insistently
but when absent is more gone
than music from an unplugged wireless
Silences break with a whisper a gong a hum
Pain withdraws and quickens
soundlessly
Bill Wootton
