The Hepburn Shire Council is now urging locals to help avoid adding to the problem and instead sign up for Good for the Hood @Home to watch talks and get tips for using up leftovers and meal planning.
In its new quarterly sustainability e-newsletter the local council also inviting local residents to join the I Love Leftovers Challenge to see how much money they can save by reducing food waste.
Sign-ups close this Saturday 9 September and the Challenge runs until Saturday 7 October. Participating residents can go in the draw to win prizes by including a Thermomix.
