Kids across the state have the chance to design the new youth myki cards that will hit the network next year – unlocking free public transport for every Victorian under the age of 18.

Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams says children between the ages of five and 17 will be able to put their creativity to the test as part of a competition to design the new youth myki cards.

Young Victorians can submit their designs for a chance to showcase their work on over a million youth myki cards and to win a $1,000 gift card.

Designs for the new youth myki can be hand drawn or a digital illustration – with the new card set to stand out from the current myki card range.

Entries will close on Sunday, June 15 with Premier Jacinta Allan and Minister Williams announcing the winner later this year.

The youth myki was announced as part of the Victorian Budget 2025/26 to deliver free public transport to children from 1 January 2026 – ensuring cheaper school runs, more affordable weekends and one less thing for families to worry about.

A yearly student pass currently costs $755, but from next year children aged under 18 can travel for free. For a family with three children under 18, that’s a saving of $2,265 each year.

More than one million young Victorians and their families will benefit – with the cards set to cost $5 and be valid until the child turns 18.
