November 29th, 2023Police investigate stock theft

Ballarat Crime Investigation Unit detectives, with the assistance of the Farm Crime Coordination Unit are investigating the theft of approximately 600 sheep at a Lexton property in two separate incidents.

In one incident, it’s believed that 585 12-month-old merino sheep of mixed sex were stolen from a farm on Sunraysia Highway, Lexton between 23 July and 19 September.

In a second incident, it’s believed another 16 merino rams were stolen from the same farm between 4 November and 6 November.

Police were notified as soon as the missing sheep were unaccounted for.

Police suspect a livestock truck or multiple movements with a stock trailer or similar may have been used to steal the sheep.

Anyone in the farming community who notices suspicious activity, no matter how small, is now being encouraged to contact their local police station immediately or make an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers Victoria on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stppers official website.
