Rabbit-busting bait deals at Kerang on again

January 25th, 2026Rabbit-busting bait deals at Kerang on again

Landholders next to Kerang’s Ramsar-listed wetlands will again have access to a buy-one-get-one-free rabbit bait program this year.

Landholders next to Kerang’s Ramsar-listed wetlands will again have access to a buy-one-get-one-free rabbit bait program this year.

February is Rabbit Buster Month across Victoria, and the North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is marking it by helping landholders around key northern wetlands control the introduced pests.

“We’re offering locals with an Agriculture Chemical Users Permit a deal on a range of bait products such as 1080 oats and carrots, to help them keep on top of their rabbit control,” North Central CMA Project Officer Darcy Williams said.

“Pindone oats will also be available, which doesn’t require an ACUP.

“It’s basically buy one, get one free on us. The deal ends on 19 February or when stocks run out, so landholders should get in quick.”

Ms Williams said the Kerang Lakes included a number of internationally significant wetlands.

“Pest management is a key part of protecting these wetlands. We partner with land managers such as Parks Victoria and Goulburn-Murray Water and assist local farmers with rabbit control programs to protect the wetlands and their sensitive cultural sites,” she said.

“There’s never been a more important time to do that, with climate change impacting our communities, our farms, and our wetlands.

“A drying climate means rabbits will be more attracted to crops and to the areas we revegetate around the wetlands.”
