A rapt audience in the Victoria Park Pavilion heard one of Australia’s outstanding filmmakers, Daylesford’s Richard Keddie, talk of his experiences in making box office successes, internationally acclaimed documentaries and popular works for television.

Overwhelming support for the return of the Phoenix Cinema at The Rex in Daylesford has been shown by a dinner that raised almost $24,000.

Jules McDonald, president of the Daylesford Cinema Group, said the generosity and goodwill shown at the event was a big boost to the team working hard to restore the cinema.

About 110 people enjoyed a fine demonstration of Indian cuisine courtesy of Raman Richards and his award-winning mother, restaurateur Puja Kumari.

There was keen bidding for items, including a distinctive David Bromley painting entitled Roll Camera, Action.

One of the many valuable raffle prizes was two tickets to the world premiere of his newest documentary, on the late acclaimed satirist John Clarke, coming soon.

The next cinema fundraiser is a media trivia quiz on Wednesday, May 7 at the Daylesford Bowling Club, with doors opening at 6pm.
