As the name Central Goldfields so proudly proclaims gold has played a key part in our history and its impact is still felt today.
In this wide ranging illustrated lecture cultural historian and curator, Kenneth Park explores the subject of gold and its allure from its enduring symbolism of wealth, beauty, and prestige, as well as its practical applications and historical significance.
Gold’s scarcity, unique properties, and ability to evoke emotions contribute to its timeless appeal. The lecture will reference stories and art (and objects) associated with gold. It is presented as part of the public program for the Central Goldfields
Art Gallery exhibition The Art of Gold – Treasures from the National Gallery of Australia.
