The Water Police Squad rescued a 68-year-old man who fell overboard from his boat at Indented Head, Geelong, in recent days.

Police were called after reports a tinnie was located doing circles in waters 4km off Indented Head in Geelong about 9.30am on Monday, February 27.

No one was on board and the Water Police Squad with the assistance of Air Wing searched the area.

Water Police located a man wearing a life jacket in waters about 1.5km from where his boat was located and 2.5km offshore at Indented Head about 1.20pm.

Officers pulled the Altona man onto their boat, and he was taken to the Indented Head boat ramp where he was taken to hospital for observation.

Inspector James Dalton at Water Police Squad: “We had grave concerns for this man’s welfare. To locate him so far away from his tinnie and so far off shore is like finding a needle in a haystack.”

“It was brilliant work by our members who really demonstrated their expertise on the water…

“We understand this man had been in the water for about six hours.

“Without a doubt he is alive due to the fact he was wearing a life jacket, those people who noticed something was wrong called the police and provided that large-scale response.”
